For so many who are there in loving kindness . For some especially these days. For my chief who offered unquestionable love and friendship in a desperate situation; my beloved sister who took the time to understand deeply; all those who are there with me, sharing of their time, heart and soul; You all here sharing in this sacred space and those who visit here. Thank you all dearly, for being here, for joining, for loving, sharing, laughing, and for doing what you can and for what you do. 🙏😍 And if I may say so, including myself also, trying to live these qualities as best to my ability.

I am thankful for many people in my life, starting with my child. I am writing this while traveling on the bus, and I am thinking of people in my community—most of whom I don’t know personally—who do the work of, say, running the bus.

I include, of course, the folks on the ground driving the buses and cleaning the parks, emptying the trash and paving the road. But I am also thinking of the administrator planning bus routes and the elected officials who identify needs and make decisions and agreements that make those happen.

Some of these people can get a bad reputation. I am talking about bureaucrats and politicians. But my experience is that a great many of these people are working to build a better society that serves its citizens. And I know that the vast majority of what I do with my time would not be possible without them.

My husband, both for who he is as my life partner and love of my life and right now especially for his caregiving as I deal with a broken wrist.
My 2 daughters, who have grown into wonderful women.
My stepchildren, also grown into wonderful adults and who accepted me as a person in their dad’s life and in theirs all those years ago.
My friends who make sure we stay connected through text and voice messages at times we can’t see each other, especially my best friend who lives hundreds of miles away and whom I get to see only occasionally but who is part of my life.
My colleagues who work so hard to make a difference and who support each other as a team.
The many many people who labor so that I have hot coffee in my cup, electricity that heated that water, everything it took to grow those beans and bring them to this country and put them on the shelf at the grocery store.
The many maintainers who keep things running and working through difficult times and broken supply chains and all the rest.
The people who act and speak and march and rise up to work for a better world for everyone.

Thinking about this question I came up with a very long list of people I’m thankful for. And then I thought of myself. I am thankful for myself, I thought. Should I put this out there? Yes, I’ll take that plunge. I am thankful for myself. My body is functioning in complex and wonderous ways with an ability to protect and heal itself. My mind can do so many things. I have been given gifts in many forms that I can use in many ways. I’m just a whole package. And I’m thankful for every part of it. Being an agnostic, I do not rule out the possibility that those thanks should go not to myself but to my maker but for the time being it stays with me. 🙂

Thank you, dragonfly – oneself – that’s a great person to be thankful for. 🙂
Agnosticism makes sense – how can we Know what is or isn’t there, in all of space and time?

hmm- of late it seems that I am thankful for the person’s choices to expand their capacities for spiritual evolution guiding their values, beliefs and hence their actions and speech. It is more of a challenge to be thankful a person’s choices when the values and beliefs are serving to entrench greed, hatred and are self serving, resulting in increased suffering.

I’m chuckling. There are too many people to name! From the parents in blessed to come from, to the spouse I’m blessed to have found, the 3 spiritual teachers, the children who can’t through me, the children my husband adopted, the besties, the animal companions, and the houseplants (yes, they’re people). I am supremely abundant. I even have a work soulmate. This has made me want to reach out to a friend I’ve lost touch with and say, “I appreciate you”.

I am thankful for my wife, children, friends, the people who keep this site running for all of us. I am thankful for the vegetable garden, the meadows I irrigate and cut for hay and the animals I feed with it. I am thankful for the good fortune I have had in life. I am thankful for the hard times, they make the good times so much more. I am thankful that I am sober.

I pause, like many around the world, to give thanks for the life of Queen Elizabeth II. I do not know the full historical depth of the institutional domination of the Monarchy. However, what I’ve witnessed is her fidelity to being a public servant to her people, her children/ family, and Phillip. RIP, Woman of Faith and a steadfast leader exemplifying a Grace filled style.
