Being in the forest, especially of old growth trees, is the most humbling experience to me.

Encountering the enormity of the natural world. Finding that life has its own plan and my plan gets torn up. Realising it’s not about me.

Every time I’m around nature I feel humbled and the lingering thought that we are a minuscule part of a large universe. Sometimes we give way too much importance to ourselves when in reality we almost don’t matter at all. (And I mean that in a good way)

Everywhere! I grew up in the woods of Pennsylvania, and spent so many hours among the trees and shrubs and flowers they are still among my best and favorite companions even now as a man in his sixties. Today, everyday, I am humbled by the majesty and patience of any tree, by the quiet, delicate grace of ground flowers, even the ancient history of a patch of moss or lichen. I have a reverence for the natural world that surpasses all else, and am humbled to be an infinitesimal part of the cosmos.

When I hold a wildflower or leaf. How amazing they are with colors, smells and infinite beauty. When I stop and look closely at each natural piece of the environment I feel humble at how it all unfolded and was created. Especially the Milky Way.

Living in a concrete jungle, when I jog along park connector, I felt humbled by the nature that took over and plants started to grow along the sides. The wild flowers pushes through the gap in the pavement and the birds that came to stay,

I find being in nature delightful, the beautiful, hilly mountains and countryside, beside the ocean; the flower gardens. Viewing a new moon is fascinating too.

In the natural world, I feel humbled in clear night skies far away from cities, where the stars and moon are clearly visible. I begin to realize just how small I am and how great the universe is.

Ha, ha … as distinct from the un-natural world. This morning..

    Three screeching cockatoos
    Dancing in the tree-tops
    Piercing the dawn quiet
    Heralding the sunrise

These days the hazelnuts are to be collected and to have a chance and to pick them up was humbling and joyful, to just find such gifts which had just fallen down from the bushes next to our home, while in the same time hoping that there would be enough left for the squirrels and other animals living in our area to fill their winter storages. I will use them with care and will say a little prayer when having the pleasure to enrich my muesli with these fruits the next days to come.

Walking amongst the glorious Redwood Trees. I am in absolute awe of them. I am reminded of how insignificant I am in the world when I stand under them & look up. I thank them for their beauty & pray to them for strength.
I am also humbled by the mighty Pacific Ocean. She is magnificent & powerful. 🙏

Again, I agree with everyone….so right this minute I will mention what is humbling to me right now….Fall.
With all the heat many of us have experienced this summer, most people were waiting for fall to arrive. It has come late here, and we are still experiencing some 80 degree days, but you can feel it in the mornings, although this year it is more extreme(there is frost on the roof across the way), but it is here!
Like a friend or a much loved relative we have not seen for years, our neighborhood has greeted it with more joy than I have seen in years past….this past week, everyone I have seen is smiling and remarking on how great our changing of the seasons is, and I am humbled by Nature. It came! And all of you in the midwest and the east, you all get to see Nature’s glorious display…give her our love….

By the ocean in the sea breeze with the sunrise bringing a new day. Nature’s power at its finest.

Witnessing any birth in creation, all things are fearfully and wonderfully made. Watching a sunrise, finding a rainbow, seeing the weathering of rock from the passing of time. Beautifully simple yet amazingly complicated to get my brain around. I can only respond with awe.

I feel humbled whenever I go outside at night and look up at the heavens and see the thousands and thousands of lights in the sky. Recently I went whale watching in the lower St. Lawrence river . We saw so many whales but what humbled me most was the pod of humpbacks who we followed and got close up to. Their immense size, their intelligence was amazing.

Nature itself is very humbling, whether it’s the oceans, forests, animals, weather.

I am humbled by all of Nature. Just standing in it is enough for me to know that I am a mere handbreadth. However, there is a place in Maine where a plateau juts out from the jagged coastline. These are the rocks-of-time where the ocean’s waves crash and swirl as mists weave among the hundreds of pure white seagulls. I stand alone in this place that remains untouched by humankind and I am humbled for I have been blessed to touch the face of God.

From the tiniest flower, bug, sparkle of light in a puddle, to the greatest mountains, canyons, or ocean’s fury, all of it moves me profoundly. In its majesty and perfection, I am humbled deeply. The deafening silences of nature often speak the loudest.

I feel humbled every time I realize another way that we have foolishly interfered with nature without understanding or appreciating it. (Destroying forests, consumption, trash, pollution, GMO’s, destroying diversity, etc.)

I also feel humbled when I appreciate nature’s beauty, diversity, and ability to heal.

Whether it’s in my backyard, in an old farm meadow or anywhere on or near the ocean, the spider webs of fall, the dew rising off a hillside hayfield, or the wind letting us know whose boss while we’re out rowing, all of it humbles me, and sometimes to the point of tears.

Anytime I’m in the ocean, I feel humbled, especially on the days where the waves are bigger or there is a current going down the beach. I swam the other day, and the rip current from Hurricane Sam was intense! For a storm that’s not going to directly effect us, it sure sent some power across the ocean.

Also… when I hiked up to the top of Chimney Rock last month and looked out into the world, I was most definitely humbled. It’s a great big beautiful world and being able to see so much at once is breathtaking.
