Presence, kind words, company, sharing sorrow and joy, a listening heart, a deeply touching note on a card, being together in a restaurant and sharing delicious food, precious advice, all offered by a dear friend with a big big heart. She is such a treasure, a beautiful soul. May blessings always be with her.

In a lot of ways everything, my grandparents were second generation, the children of immigrants who came over to work fields trying to escape famines and brutal colonial rule ravaging their mother country and they worked so hard and were so frugal all their life, passing that onto my grandparents whom I was fortunate to spend a lot of my childhood around who then passed that onto me. I learned from them the value of frugality and consistent hard work, not giving up when times get hard and how to survive even in hostile environments as they encountered a lot of outright racism which they handled with grace and deep awareness of their worth. Everyday I live I am the benefactor of the love of loved ones and the love of strangers, I’ve been given a lot I feel and have every moment of my existence someone’s gifts to me that I have to be thankful for.

I have an incredible lineage having grown up in a beautiful place, the mountains and oceans raised me, the trees hugged and comforted me as I napped in their limbs, the birds sang their songs to enlighten my soul … and I was and have been always been given many gifts without having been asked for anything back, there was no memo of what I needed to return one day, these were all given out of the deep awareness that we all are interconnected, giving and receiving continually. Every breathe is given to me, fully, sweetly without any expectations, so I lean into these gifts and find in this moment perpetually grace.

One of our son’s stopped by this morning to see us. I loved that!

And my husband has been “working” the rummage sale. Something I really appreciate that he does.

Many friends stopped by the sale, too, and the conversations, the warmth… I treasure those conversations as gifts.

The gift of rest and sleeping in to recharge from an eventful and sad week, and honoring my boundaries by letting me know of plans made so that I do not have to worry.

Boundaries – I slightly modified our family plans at the last minute this morning and my wife not-so-subtly reminded me of the value and importance of follow through.

Acceptance. I’m not always the easiest person to be around. My partner sees through all that.

Also, snuggles from my cat. I love it when he buries his head in my lap purring.

My husband always gets up earlier than me and cleans the kitchen. He takes pride in making sure all the dishes are done and countertops clean. It is lovely to wake up to.

My partner has presented me with an invitation he extended unilaterally which impinge on my time and space both days of this Thanksgiving weekend. The gift is an opportunity to learn forbearance and flexibility, to rise above irritability and feeling “put upon”, to choose to transform it into something positive. I can already feel my energy shifting as I share in this hospitable space.

Last night, I could not fall asleep and was awake until 2 a.m. … and my thoughtful husband gave me the gift of being able to stay in bed much later than usual for me this morning. Thank you, dear one.

The gift of life came from my parents
Today, friendship and company from my dog sitting on my lap.
    A small aside.
I read the poem “Hokusai Says” this morning.
    It is powerful.

It is early morning here, so our dog Joy has shown me the gift of love. Just her with all her dog love-the best kind- next to me in her bed, letting me rub her neck and belly. When she has had enough and has. given enough, she trots off to the office and sleeps there for awhile..
Now yesterday was my day to receive gifts of love. My daughter came to town and we went hiking. There is a trail I just love to hike, but it is what she calls “technical”, so I can’t hike it alone. She gave up her day so we could hike it together. It was fantastic! There are many boulders, small and large, and rocky areas you have to walk over or around, and it has steep areas as well, but I love it. I don’t get to do it often, but it brings such joy to my life! So, it was a true gift of love…and then, after she went home, I was able to take one of my grandsons out to dinner! I have only one grandchild that lives in town, and he is a teenager. To give up his evening with his girlfriend to go out to dinner with his grandma is a true gift of love….we had a great time! I am trying to do this dinner out with him once every month or so. I learn so much from him and am so lucky to have this time with him.
    Lots of love yesterday!❤️

So far I’ve received love from within myself and the gift is how strong and resilient I’ve been as a survivor in a difficult life.

My loved ones, close friends and family, are gone. No one is left. However, when I take my walk this morning, I will meet the doggies and their owners. While the human parents are nice enough, the dogs are the ones who will greet me with their soul-filled eyes, sniff and lick my hands. They are Oberon, June, Skye, Winkle, Hunk, Ella, Henry, and Bubba. Oh, there are more dogs but I may not meet up with them all today. The blessings of petting and hugging these wonderful canines are equal to a hug from those once close to me who now reside in my heart. My beloved feline, Abbey, lies next to me as I write and she is my joy, my constant companion from whom I receive gifts many times a day. Just watching Abbey while she sleeps is a cherished gift. 🐾🐾💓

I learned all of my neighbor’s dogs’ names before I learned my neighbor’s names…. Luna, Libby, Jo, etc… were the ambassadors. Dogs are always first to greet with their wet noses! Sometimes I have to tell the dogs, “no French kissing on a first date, please” Lol. I’m glad you have your Abbey with you.

Thank you, Holly. I do have a hard time remembering the owners’ names but I know each dog’s. A new one was introduced to me today and he is a shorthaired Daschund puppy named Gus ( actually Augustus) but his human parents call him Gus. He is a lover! 🥰

Today’s question assumes that I am at the end of my day looking back. But my day has barely begun. So, I’ll simple say that I receive unwavering love from the people that I love, and I take joy in returning that love in kind.

I got some snuggles with our dog. That’s it so far for 5am! As Christine said, the day is young! May we all have a happy, peaceful day.

“Dog time” is the best! As of this early hour our dog Gracie hasn’t come down the stairs yet in order to go out and pee. She’s blind, but navigates the stairs and other household “obstacles with ease, walks into my home office to say hello, goes out to piddle, walks back in, heads up the stairs and back to bed!

I love how dogs are so resilient. And so humble about it as well! Dog time (and cat time) is truly a blessing. I went all of my adult life without a dog of my own until my husband & I got together, and it was definitely a piece of the puzzle that I was happy to find 🙂

First thing my wife and I did when we got married was to get a puppy. We’ve had dogs ever since. I don’t think that I ever want to live and not have a dog in my life. Cats too, we have and love, but nothing takes the place of a dog in my view.

Oh yes! Cat time is important as well, although my little old man does not want snuggles in the morning… only food! My little old man does not want to snuggle in the morning. He only wants to EAT!
