Besides my accomplishments I should look at being more present today. I have been reflecting a lot lately and over thinking, today I will be present and reflect when I am journaling.

Probably most things. I can’t think of much that wouldn’t do well with being looked at a bit more deeply.

I’ll be fasting, so I’ll be going deeper into the relationship with food and the sensations of hunger. Grateful that this is my choice and not forced on me by circumstances, like happens to so many.

Tonight, I can look in awe at the stars and moon in the night sky more deeply as I head to my apartment from the library I’m at right now.

The speed at which my thoughts go through my head, and the physical reaction I have with each one. Especially with recurring thoughts that conjure up anger or resentment. I’ve been dealing with high blood pressure and anxiety. So I’ve been looking at how letting go and choosing different thoughts is helping me manage my health.

An unobstructed view out from the observer. The filters removed. Making sure that I yield 100% to that which is before me. To become what I am not, yet am. To be an openness beyond self.

I can review correspondence i recently received & detach from the feelings it erupted. A once close friendship now mired again by occasional mistrust. Hopefully moving towards acceptance, as it won’t be what it once was.

I can look more deeper into my feelings and me reacting so quickly without thinking. I wish I were able to just listen, think and then react in a responsible manner.

i can look more deeply at the people, the natural world and all I am in the presence of today – with gratefulness, openness, curiosity and acceptance.

I feel it’s more WHO than what I want to look at – to regard -more deeply today, Response: eyes, smiles, laughs, expressions of joy, worry, affection, vitality, weariness ….in the faces of those I meet today (with and without masks).

“We live on the brink of disaster because we do not know how to let life alone. We do not respect the living and fruitful contradictions and paradoxes of which true life is full.”

I looked deeply at today’s quote by Merton and made it my morning meditation. This is the journal entry it produced.:

This quote rings true for me. I spent so many years fighting and fleeing from life instead of letting it flow in and through me. We are instruments of Life and Life is trustworthy if we learn how to LET IT BE. I find his use of the word “respect” very telling. How many times has my need to control resulted in a lack of “respect” for my life? He refers to “fruitful contradictions and paradoxes.” The egoic mind cringes when it faces contradictions and paradoxes but I have found that contradictions and paradoxes are always a sign of a deeper truth and when I am willing, they offer me a chance to grow in awareness. I think we are suppose to go with the flow until we BE-COME ONE WITH THE FLOW. I think that’s what it means to be fully human (being).

Thank you, Carol – it was ‘life’ that Thomas Merton wanted us to respect, not ‘nature’ as I thought. Indeed it’s a useful quote. And thank you for. your meditation on it.

As mentioned before, my faith and spirituality. Focusing on these aspects of my life will help me through my anxious thoughts and beliefs and to concentrate on being grateful and accepting. Letting go what I cannot control.

My spirituality. I have gotten lazy, like being on vacation a bit, and, come to think of it, maybe I have been! I want my structure back, so have signed up for an online course from Tricycle magazine and I started yesterday. It feels like…balm for my soul…..and when I have missed a Zoom church service, I have made no effort to look at the email sent by church to see the recordings. Well, I have, as of this morning, started watching the services I have missed to help me reconnect. It’s all good, as they say…..

The position I applied for the day my vacation started last week. I’m home and back to work on Thursday, so I’m going to have to shift back into work mode even before I go back. It’s an exciting opportunity in the only other department I would ever consider working in!

How my prayer life is truly leading me through life. Am I living a one minded life? A life whose primary intent is to serve God and others? How often am I making the best use of my time in that objective?

My prayer life. And it just happens that today, I’m starting a ten week course on spirituality, which as the weeks roll along, I hope will add to my repertoire.

Years ago, while in seminary, I had an advisor who said, “It’s good to remember that sometimes we just need to shut up and be the student!”
