I need to look at each moment of life with fresh eyes. I feel as if I take things for granted to often. I need to make sure that my eyes are fresh and take in each and every moment and detail of the day.

Everything really. Starting with this hand that holds the phone. I see lots of wrinkles and creases and the complexity of how it can move in so many ways. The opposable thumbs in particular are amazing.

I could look at my home with fresh eyes. I could try to appreciate it and spend time with it instead of rushing to work or other things. I could look at its details, and show appreciation through taking better care of it.

My perception of reality and time. I’m terrified by learning that there is a particle accelerator (Large Hadron Collider in Cern) smashing atoms and releasing “God particles” and “X particles” from when the Universe was created in a lab without regard for how these experiments can alter space-time and real life. Coincidentally, we also have an insurgence in Mandela Effect, where many people (including myself) are realizing vivid memories from their early life before internet “never existed”.

Lately I have been curious about crypto, the metaverse, blockchains, www3 and NFT’s. I think without exception, every assumption I had made about these issues was incorrect. Just goes to show the importance of admitting “I don’t know” and going into issues with fresh eyes.

This popped up recently for me. Living in a 2 bedroom apartment with two young children and a husband means that we feel cramped. A LOT. I sit on Zillow and wistfully dream of single homes with nice backyards and playrooms. But my apartment is comfortable. It is cramped because we have been blessed to purchase what we need and to have family and friends that give gifts to our children. It’s small nature means that I always know where everyone is and can instantly get to a crying baby. I always have eyes on the people I love and that gives me great comfort. In time my children will grow and so will our needs. But we are tucked in exactly where we need to be right now.

My new job. Instead of being nervous and anxious about starting a new job. Look at it with a sense of a new beginning. I wasn’t happy with my old job so this will be an opportunity to start fresh and feel the sense of accomplishment that I haven’t felt in quite awhile

I can look at today with fresh eyes. I can be open to the new, the brand new day, new experiences, a new attitude. Take it all in. I am grateful for this beautiful new day full of possibility. 🙏

On my walk a child started a nature sculpture on an oak tree branch that is armlength height. So many people have added to the art with feathers, rocks, sticks, botany. It brings so much joy to all who walk by and adds connection and smiles too so many. It gives me fresh eyes that we are community all together. We are not alone.

My fears about discussing important issues with those I have to get information from, to make decisions for my life. While also believing that I’ll make the right choices for myself!!

Alone at the moment, I am looking at my immediate surroundings and belongings to find things I no longer need or love. I will have a big box of stuff today to give away. I’m appreciating people and that others may be able to use or enjoy these things. Appreciating the earth and trying to consume less, have less, and pass on more. “Lightening up,” both literally and figuratively, requires fresh eyes, not the eyes I had when I accumulated. As I do this I am finding treasures that have melted invisibly into the woodwork, and i can appreciate them again, so that is a delight. Beside me here, are my mother’s pinking sheers and scissors, that I am at last packing up to send away to be sharpened. My eyes are also being sharpened.

I find this very challenging. The best I can do is try to see things from someone else’s perspective. Asking for their view on something and really listening to what they’re saying.

Hope, and gratefulness for being alive. Yesterday was my last day of isolation after testing positive for Covid last week. In spite of being fully vaccinated and boosted, and wearing masks everywhere I go, like millions of other people, I still picked up the virus, and from where is a total mystery. During calls for prayer near the end of our online Quaker worship service yesterday, one person held up his aunt in advanced age, vaccinated, who is currently dying of Covid. Another Friend reports that a man in a neighboring state of 47 years, fully vaxxed and boosted, has died of Covid. Sadly, these stories are common everywhere. Yet, for myself as a man who had mild symptoms and is approaching 72, I get to live while others did not. Everything I see today is suddenly fresh.

At “Ghormeh Sabzi” . A Persian recepy.
This afternoon I have my third Persian cooking class from a young woman from Iran . The contact started after I gave her a lift. Now we are very good friends. Coocking together is great fun.
