“Surrendering the drive for certainty was both terrifying and empowering.
I learned to see hope as an unconditional orientation to life that called on me to bow to the one truth of which I had become certain: there is a mystery to life that is more vast and promising than what is knowable.”
~ Kristi Nelson, Wake Up Grateful
There are days in most of our lives when certainty seems to abound in both the present moment and the imagined future. And there are times when all of life seems to exist as a question, when our current lives and the way forward are full of things unknowable. If there were ever a year when uncertainty was felt as a global, collective experience, we are living it now. While it’s true that the pandemic has made poignant all that is impossible to know and predict about our lives, it also offers a profound invitation to consider — and perhaps redefine — our relationship with uncertainty.
What if instead of holding tightly to our need to know and be certain, we deepened our capacity to hold mystery? What if in the space of the unknown, we nurtured curiosity and opened ourselves more fully to possibility? How might even the hardest moments of our lives be transformed by redefining our relationship with all that we cannot know? Together, we’ll explore these questions through a series of guided reflections and grateful living practices that increase our comfort with uncertainty, open us to mystery, and create space for possibility in our lives.
Please join Kristi Nelson, Sheryl Chard, and Muthoni Magua — members of the Grateful Living Team — on Thursday, March 25, 2021, 12:00-1:30 p.m., ET, for this experiential online mini-retreat. (You can access a time converter here, if needed.) The retreat will include teachings and practices from the book Wake Up Grateful. You do not need to have a copy of the book for the retreat, but if you do have one, please bring it to the gathering.
This retreat is offered free of charge, although we will invite you to make a donation afterward as you’re so moved. Registration is open until Tuesday, March 23rd at 5:00 p.m., ET or until we reach capacity. On Wednesday the 24th we will send all participants a Zoom link and pre-retreat information. We look forward to being in community with you.
