THE ORGANIZATION:
A Network for Grateful Living is a global non-profit organization offering online and community-based educational programs and practices which inspire and guide a commitment to grateful living, and catalyze the transformative power of personal and societal responsibility. We believe and promote that grateful living supports our ability to see wonder and opportunity in every moment, and motivates us to act boldly with love, generosity, and respect towards one another, ourselves, and the Earth.
We were co-founded in 2000 by Br. David Steindl-Rast. We currently have a Gratefulness Team of six staff residing in New York State, Indiana, New Mexico, and Massachusetts, a small office in Hadley, MA, and Brother David’s Archives in Amherst, MA. Our Board of Directors currently has ten members, residing throughout the United States, who are highly engaged.
THE OPPORTUNITY:
A Network for Grateful Living is seeking a uniquely qualified individual for the role of Executive Director. The ideal candidate will be an energetic, purpose-driven leader who is deeply aligned with the vision, mission, and values of the organization. They will be driven by a commitment to both individual and social transformation, grounded in gratefulness. The ideal candidate will have respect for the sacredness of the organization’s founding and history, as well as a compelling vision for an extraordinary future of growth which leverages that history.
Organizational assets and opportunities include: ushering the launch of a newly enhanced website reaching more than one million people annually; serving a community of 100K subscribers; nurturing relationships with over 3,000 donors; working with the Board to envision a next-phase strategic plan; helping to grow programmatic offerings, and much more.
The Executive Director position is full time, reports directly to the Board of Directors, oversees a team of remote staff, and will gain institutional insight, collaboration, and support from the prior leader, who will transition into an Ambassador role.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Natural leader and visionary/strategic thinker who can inspire others by example and has proven success in a leadership role
- A minimum of 5 -7 years of previous experience as Executive Director or executive leadership role in a national non-profit organization, educational institution, or business
- Proven experience working with a diverse, engaged Board of Directors
- Track record of hiring and managing a diverse staff as well as leading and executing programs, campaigns, and/or initiatives dedicated to advancing belonging
- Proven ability to lead, build, and inspire remote teams
- Proven success in using technology, digital marketing, multi-media and social media to grow an audience
- Brings national affiliations, networks, and partnerships with kindred leaders and organizations
- Leadership of successful fundraising campaigns, including large grant acquisitions
- History of building strong donor relationships and stakeholder communities
- Eloquent, tactful, highly skilled communicator through writing and public presentation
- Established practices related to personal and social wellbeing/transformation

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR:
Role:
- Title: Executive Director
- Full-time position, virtually-based
- Reports directly to the Board of Directors
- Willing to travel as needed
Management & Administration:
- Manage/coordinate staff team
- Provide leadership support to Board, Committees and Task Forces
- Oversee and recruit staff, contractors and vendors as required to meet operational goals
Budget, Fundraising & Development:
- Develop annual $500K+ budget, provide fiscal oversight with Board, manage income and expenses
- Develop and implement multi-faceted fundraising strategies, including large grants
- Ensure diversification and growth of income streams; program, philanthropic, publishing, etc.
- Retain and oversee development contractors as needed
Branding, Marketing & Promotion:
- Clearly and consistently articulate brand, key messages, and calls to action across all marketing channels with the highest degree of quality
- Grow stakeholder community in a way that is intentional and nurturing
- Leverage all digital channels in service of audience and targeted growth metrics
- Ensure the voices of the gratefulness community are seen, heard, and felt
- Ensure an exemplary digital experience of gratefulness across all platforms
Programmatic:
- Oversee program planning and execution to advance strategic goals, mission and values
- Work with program staff to develop new programs that bring in new revenue
- Ensure that programs are in service of existing community as well as designed to expand the base, prioritizing diversity
- Lead programs online and in person
Strategic Planning & Leadership:
- In partnership with the Board, develop Strategic Plan
- Develop annual goals and operating plan based on Strategic Plan approved by the Board
- Manage the staff to fulfill the goals and operating plan
Vision & Leadership:
- Be a committed embodiment of – and ambassador for – grateful living
- Institutionalize gratefulness as a life-practice and promote a culture of grateful living
- Build, nurture, and inspire the gratefulness community
- Represent the practice of grateful living on a global level through public speaking, webcasts, and other medium
- Seek opportunities to partner with like-minded organizations around the world
- Develop network of spokespersons and message-carriers to help build and sustain our efforts [Ambassadors]
- Prioritize diversity and belonging in all aspects of organizational leadership
COMPENSATION:
- $85,000 to $110,000 Annual Salary
