Where do you find joy in simple things?
    Ha, the question answers itself.
    Simple things are a joy.

Simple things: having a shower and then putting on clean pyjamas and get into bed with clean sheets.

It is wonderful to see how inspiring simple things can be and how much we all (on this site) appreciate them. It would make the world a happier place if everyone could take the time to do the same. For me, my favourite joy-bringing simple things are nature – the plants, wildlife, views and sounds; sitting out, as now, on a summer evening, listening to wonderful music; a hot bath; a thoughtful gesture of my husband; my cat……

Today I enjoyed making yogurt using a conservation oven I made out of a shoebox. Seeing that it worked and then eating the yogurt brought me ridiculous joy.
Today I also enjoyed working on my laptop at the book shop, eating chocolate croissant and listening to beautiful music.

I have found so much joy in birdwatching since covid came. I’m to the point of feeding hummingbirds from my hand, and they even rest on my finger at times. It is absolutely incredible and awe inspiring. I start and end my day with them.

So much; calling my beloved sister and share or just inform one another about daily stuff; sitting in the train and instead of flying, having the opportunity to traveling to visit my father for his 92nd birthday; arranging all the details for his birthday celebration together with my siblings; cleaning the house and declutter; cooking together with dear friends; just arriving soon where I have to change trains so I stop here with greetings to all of you ๐Ÿ™‚

Oh my goodness., everywhere! All the time! Morning tea, the presence of my husband, yellow begonias on the patio, cry of gull. eagle, oyster catcher as I sit by the sea on a hand hewn bench, evening walk to see the sunset. swimming in the sea, the almost full moon, fresh fruit from local farms, homemade granola and so much more. Feeding the birds and making sure they have water in the bird bath. Choosing flowering plants and watching them grow and bloom. Though it is much more challenging for me these days, I still love taking a walk, waving and greeting neighbors and strangers. Listening to music while I bake. Sharing what I bake with neighbors and family. I love to sing and to dance. Don’t do it as well as I used to but am thankful for the memories.

Sunrises and sunsets. Similar to many responses, I love the peacefulness of my mornings. I actually notice the small things around me, like birds chirping and how fresh the air is. With sunsets, I love watching the sky change colors and temperature dip. It’s something about knowing the day is closing and I feel complete for that day.

I enjoy sunsets and the change in colors too. Your response also made me remember a song from Fiddler on The Roof, Sunrise Sunset. My grandparents had an 8 track tape and would play that when I was young, probably 10 yrs old. Thank you:)

This is my journal entry from yesterday, as I painted my kitchen ceiling, decluttered my home, cleaned my bathroom, put things away:

Today I am grateful for paint, a paint brush, and a roller. How wonderfully we can spruce things up and lift ourselves with a fresh coat of paint in a room!

Similarly, I am grateful for trash bags and trash pickup. Even though I try to reduce how much I throw away, I truly appreciate the ability to do so and to simplify my life. Again, it is a real pick me up to get rid of things by trashing, recycling, or donating items! (or selling).

Today I am grateful for a washing machine where I am washing my sheets today.

Iโ€™m grateful for a new kitchen sink that doesnโ€™t leak and for dish soap and a biodegradable sponge!

Iโ€™m grateful for a broom and vacuum cleaner!

Iโ€™m grateful for a shower and bathtub, too, to get myself clean after all of this cleaning!

Like so many of you, in my morning coffee… in those quiet first moments of “home”… putting out the bird feeders, looking over the meadow and seeing the rabbits feed on clover… this morning, the slightly gloomy skies which foreshadow the rain on its way… Holding a 19 month old on his back in my lap and tickling him with kisses, as I did yesterday. Ah, the laughter!

Like others, there are so many things! I, too, get up early to enjoy the quiet of the day. To hear the birds first thing makes me so happy. Then that first cup of coffee. Seeing our dog laying there, eyes on me but not demanding anything from me, just filled with love, “hearing” the silence….and now that I have done the question for today, onward I go to start a meditation. Blessings on you all today!

I find joy in the fragrance and warmth of that first sip of coffee each morning; the beauty of a garden that I didn’t plant, but that I tend; the face or voice of any of my children or grandchildren; the laughter of children everywhere; getting a new haircut; watching the bunnies chase each other in my backyard; cloud formations; icebox coconut cream pie; lakes/rivers/oceans; babies sleeping on my chest; my dog first thing in the morning and just before we go to bed; oh – and my husband’s love for me.

Oh the simple things… waking up early and it’s still quiet in the house, enjoying my morning workout, chai tea, and now writing what I am grateful for. Throughout the day, I smile from ear to ear when I hear my children laugh. It warms my heart. We as a society need to laugh more. My husbands hugs and affection. Walks in nature, feet in the sand on the beach, listening to all sorts of sounds around us and so much more.

Just exactly that- the simple things in life that I may often pass by and take for granted. My first cup of coffee, the first light of day, being in my own home, being alone, being with friends, sharing my garden, feeling the earth beneath my feet and knowing that my feet know where to go.

Sitting in our yard, staring at the sky and trees while listening to what sounds like thousands of frogs in our pond. I wonder how many frogs live here with us! And I wonder if our dog eats any. And looking at the pine trees that line the front of the property and their super tall beauty, I wonder how old they are, what they’ve seen. The dog will bolt thru the yard for what seems like no reason, running full speed, and then plop down in a random spot and start rolling on his back. These all offer me joy. Along with so many other things – the beach, the first sip of coffee in the morning, listening to a meditation and then coming here to contemplate and share, tasting a new cheese or one I haven’t tried in a while, being present with loved ones. I’ll end there ๐Ÿ™‚

We have a giant pecan tree in our back yard, and she is the most beautiful tree. Obviously very old, and has produced no fruit since we found our property almost 2 years ago. We’ve lived out here just over a year now. She is close to the old horse stall that came with the property, and I imagine that she and the horses had a lot of fun here! The energy on this land is incredible. Our house is new, but it’s soul is old! Just living out here in the country brings me joy.
I LOVE old homes… bet yours is a dream!!
