I don’t sense that it has. Yes there are feelings of contentment in the moment and an anchoring; a warm feeling. Is this “happy”? It’s more pertinent for me to say it helps in experiencing a freedom from unhappiness.

Every time I am grateful, a warm fuzzy feeling of happiness/contentment comes with it. Whenever I stop to think of being grateful, it brings that opportunity to stop the hustle and bustle of an over-busy life and to notice and realise happiness. Sometimes happiness is there but hidden, and you need to pause and acknowledge and enjoy it. Thankfully, this website always prompts me to stop and be both grateful and happy.

Today I’m feeling a bit bogged down by opportunity given my focusing on the deadlines inherent in those opportunities. Gratefully centered indeed is a much happier place to be. Will pivot a bit more toward gratitude to let a little more happiness shine in.

Today, and yesterday, being grateful and happy for some smiles, for kindness, for some relaxed moments, some attempts to verify if truth speaks, and for this lovely day together with some friends. Looking outside the window, being grateful for brother sun warming this day today, my heart smiles.

Yesterday I broke my glasses and I am grateful for an old pair. So I am happy to be able to function until Tuesday when the process of a new pair can begin after the Memorial Day weekend. I can manage until I get 20 20 vision back. I see happiness as a matter of degree on a scale of 1-10 and gratitude as homeostasis some where in the middle for balance.

I look at gratitude like exercise. If I exercise just once, it doesn’t make me fit in a day. It is something I need to practice each day to be strong. In the beginning, practicing gratitude just gave me momentary relief from the painful thoughts in my mind, but today, each day I am grateful, I am happy, no matter what is happening in the world or around me. Some souls here are still struggling with grief or depression. Just keep at it, my friends! Gratitude is practicing your vision of the good and beautiful things that are happening. Let your practice help you to feel it and know it is there always.
    Peace.

When I feel grateful that my enough is enough; when I feel a genuine and authentic contentment that what I see and hear and feel is all a gift from God; when I feel the earth beneath my feet yet I can gaze into infinity- that makes me happy. I am not alone.

Every time I focus on being grateful for something in life or life itself, a deep joy spreads within (and hopefully to those outside too:)
This awareness of gratefulness and joy that is the fruit of that awareness unseats any “itchy” feelings that may have crept into my consciousness .

Well said. I like the word “content”. Thanks

  13. Carol

I would not choose the word “happy.” “Content” works better for me and being grateful breeds contentment in me–a realization that “All is well” no matter what my circumstance. Br. David’s quote today about prayer expresses the feeling of contentment I have when I practice gratefulness. It’s more about being whole than being happy. “Prayer is not sending in an order and expecting it to be fulfilled. Prayer is attuning yourself to the life of the world, to love, the force that moves the sun and the moon and the stars.”

A heart full of gratitude always trickles like ripples in moving water into an external smile, whether masked or unmasked. 🙂 it is boundless. Thus I cultivate a grateful heart, daily.

Thank you for mentioning that, Carla. I am thinking of my father and many dear friends who served and sacrificed. I am truly grateful for their service.

Oh my friends…today I am grateful. I’ll tell you why…

Yesterday, after 22 yrs of searching and praying, I found out my father’s name. I was able to find his death notice from the newspaper, he had passed in 2011. BUT I have four siblings!! Two brothers and two sisters…this is incredible! Through some sleuthing on the internet I was able to make contact with my sister yesterday. Friends, I am no longer an orphan… my heart broke as she and I connected and last night my brother called me. We spoke for an hour. Again, unbelievable. They have been shocked, but kind and welcoming. It has exceeded all my hopes and expectations to be connected to my blood family for the first time in my 57 years. I am humbled and oh so grateful. Had to share!

Today was my first day that I consciously entered and started my gratitude journal because of the advice of a life coach Nadine Lewis. I am happy and excited that I will be gaining the understanding on how keeping a gratitude journal works and I am happy to see the benefits this brings me. I am grateful I found this online service and this makes me extremely happy. I will need to selfcare with journaling, gratitude entries and meditation. ~SB FROM NYC

Yes, unusually cold but we needed the rain that came with it, and fortunately where I am (NE Ohio) we are getting plenty of it today! We just use the cold as an excuse to change our pace and do other enjoyable things. Rather than garden today, I hope to bake which will be so much nicer now that it is cool outside!

In my most profound moments of gratefulness came unexpectedly, and elicited a response deeper than happiness. I felt something sacred, perhaps the giftedness of life, and a blissful humility, that I didn’t have tistrivd. In those moments, life, God is ever giving.

This happens all the time when I take the time to be grateful throughout the day. I find that gratitude changes my outlook of what has happening or is happening around me or to me. My spirit lifts up and I feel joyous and thankful..

Today’s thought of the day makes me grateful and happy. I was wondering yesterday about prayer. Who or what am I praying to and the universe- the force that moves everything is a beautiful way to express this. Thank you Brother David. 🙏
