I can make time and space for the gift of silence by taking some quiet time to read before I go to bed.

This is the perfect day to choose a good chunk of quiet time. I’m feeling fatigued and overextended and my whole self is saying:
be in the quiet, let go of the doing, the perceived obligations. Return to interior space. Good to know I’m in your good company, All.

Making time and space is not necessary. Unlike ideas and feelings, it is always available. It is a Truth. The quiet is doing nothing yet is like a “wind” of being. Chatty Don can choose to ignore it, but it never changes. A few questions to self can bring the breeze of being forth – who is looking, who is listening? But then, outwardly it is like trying to describe purple to a blind person.

I make time & space for silence upon arising. I sit in prayer, reflection & meditation during this time. I focus on listening to the singing birds, part of my meditative practice. As my day moves forward I make time for silence; grounding in the sunlight, walking amongst the redwoods, sitting quietly reading. I have learned I must make the intention to be quiet. I must make it happen.
    Happy Saturday to All…..❤️🙏🐝🌼🌸✨

I, unintentionally, woke up earlier than I needed to this morning and I had time for my meditation practice before work. There was some silence. There was also bird sounds, cat sounds, a bit if wind in the trees, the sound of my girlfriend waking up. All of this was noted as I returned to my breath. Again and again.

When my children were young I I would often deny the request to turn on the radio. I did not understand at the time that it was my need for silence. A rare commodity with 4 kiddos. But one day when they were older one of them said something about me not liking music. When I inquired why they thought that they mention how I never wanted the radio on.
Made me smile I explained that I do enjoy music however at that time my need for silence was more overpowering than the enjoyment of music. Opportunity for silence is a true gift in a world that can overwhelm our senses.

My day started with my cat’s very pretty, cheerful, purring-infused meowing. And meowing, and meowing, and meowing. He walked around my room announcing it was time to get up, as he does every day, but I wanted to get more sleep because I’ve been in different time zones two of the last three weeks and I’m tired. He finally left and I got more sleep. I’m up now with the sound of the dishwasher chugging and birds chirring in the trees outside. At some point I’ll go outside to sit on our small deck or patio and just look at the sky and listen to the birds. It will be quiet, not silent. If I can silence the chatter in my head that will be a gift.

Resist the temptation to fill the moments where silence presents itself.

You are never so busy to spend time with yourself . All you’ve to do is take atleast 20 mins and relax. It can be sitting somewhere in a place you love the most , you can even make your favorite coffee , it can be anything . It’ll surely bring a small amount of joy .
Thank you for reading ! 🙂

Sitting in my chair in the early morning before work with my cup of coffee.
Doing my pre-work Yoga stretches, without listening to the radio. Listening to the robins calling outside.

As everyday, I make time for silence when I wake up early and the sun has just started to rise. The silence allOwns me to concentrate n my mediation and self reflection without interruption..

That is why I get up early, to enjoy the gift of silence. It is like that now, with the birds singing periodically, waking up to another day filled with sunshine. Silence is a real gift in our world. I enjoy it as often as I can.

I try to take time during the day – moments and minutes – to let the silence fill that space.

It’s silent in the house this morning, still early at 5am. I enjoy my morning time of peace and silence. My husband and I moved out to the country to be able to enjoy the silence. The old townhouse life had people and cars at all hours, but now I can sit in my garden and hear nothing but birds, horses from a neighboring farm, the rooster up the road if its early enough… and then there’s the wind… and God. I appreciate silence and am grateful it’s in such easy reach.

We also moved in part to get to a quieter place–smaller town, quiet neighborhood. Part of the home-buying process involved me standing outside and just listening to how much traffic noise I could hear. This ruled out a lot of houses.
Now we have quiet. Not silence, because I can always hear birds. At night an owl hoots outside from the large nearby park. Sometimes when I walk in the park and the wind blows strongly it’s like listening to the ocean only it’s above my head, while down on the path it stays quieter. I treasure that.

As a Quaker, silence is a gift and vehicle we use regularly in our worship, committee meetings, and, what we call our “meetings for worship for the purpose of business.” Yet, for us, we are reminded that simply being quiet isn’t the same thing as silence. We strive for a silence that invites worship, communion, meditation, peace, and release, which quiets the mind and beckons the presence of Spirit.

And do you have your own daily practice during the day?

I attend Quaker Meeting. It’s carving out time in my busy work day that is the discipline.

Hello Maeve, I’m retired now, but when I was working long hours with children, teens and parents, I used to “try” to carve out 10-15 minutes in mid afternoon in my office for meditation, and sometimes worship. A real treat for me, which didn’t happen very often, is when a Friend from our meeting would call and ask me if I had five to ten minutes for a visit, which she meant, to worship. She’d come in, we’d sit, and for a beautiful ten minutes hold a brief period of silent worship.

These days, having retired seven years ago, I pause in several spots here and there for the same amount of time, ten minutes, for what feels like worship to me. After I set our boat up for our rowing team three days a week, I sit quietly in the boat, staying with my breath and the sound of water lapping against the boat’s hull, or in a chair in the back yard. (The trick there though is not to fall asleep!) Have a good day, Friend!

I am enjoying the peacefulness and silence of this morning… I know in a few hours it will be the opposite. Today I am doing a 5K, my son the 10K, and my co-worker is doing both 5 and 10K for the ‘Hippie Dash’. There will be a ton of runners/walkers out getting exercise and supporting Goodwill. Happy Saturday everyone:)

Like oxygen, I need silence. Fortunately, my daily rhythm is such that I can easily find it. Every morning around sunrise I step into nature. I often say to myself “how quiet it is, how nice this is”. I am grateful for that feeling. It is therefore so easy to be connected with nature and beauty.🌺🐝🐦🌳🌞

In my meditation practice I can clearly see, that the one who is aware of whatever is silent. He is silence. This silence has great power. It is the force that creates everything, and everything is within me the silence. Appearing and disappearing. The greatest evil and the holiest of the holy. As soon as I leave the standingground of silence I make out of myself a small thing. It might be good or bad whatever I think to be. ..desires and needs arise. whatever i do. Wherever I go I should try not leave silence. This is how I try to stay comfortable with myself and the world. Have a good day grounded in silence everybody
