torn between responding “my health and wellness”…. (which has been so fortunate until just lately when I am getting a little bit concerned about the topic…)
or “some wonderful opportunities” to be welcomed into participating in some volunteer projects working on wildlife corridors and habitat protection with some people I truly enjoy being around and admire and respect. I feel fortunate. I wish the same for the rest of this community, and reading the reflections late today, will simply acknowledge here that I saw Linda’s request. I join with the others holding her and her husband in their thoughts and prayers.
Biscuits! Mundane, perhaps, but I rarely make biscuits since my husband was diagnosed with diabetes. I told him this weekend I’d be making some so he could decide whether he wants to eat or avoid. I just ate them hot out of the oven with butter and local honey and they were delicious. I used the best biscuit recipe ever. Extra secret tip from a different recipe: Freeze the butter first, then use a grater instead of cutting it into bits. I have The Food Lab cookbook by J. Kenji Lopez-Alt, which has this recipe in it and many other really great, carefully tested ones for all kinds of yum. https://www.seriouseats.com/the-food-lab-buttermilk-biscuits-recipe
Not having something every day makes it extra special when it comes along.
Today, I appreciate more of being alive despite all the challenges I am facing, for diversity in all beings, a place I call home, abundant food that was grown by someone else, clothes that was given to me and made in a different place than my own environment, various gifts, my primary doctor who cares a lot about me, to live in a country where the ratio of medical professionals are better than the rest of the world, for ancestors who sacrifice so many things for all of us to benefit, for those who shine the light on injustice and continue to make this universe equitable, and fighting to include every beings instead of excluding, for those share love instead of hate, for kindness and compassion, for those who share their forgiveness to me and with me when I acted poorly …. Above all, I appreciate my Creator’s love and creation of me more as I learn each day I am loved. I am enough. I am ….
Today I can appreciate my ability
to do whatever I want to do.
This is especially true on Sundays,
which is the day my husband and I save
to be the day without obligations.
So I appreciate breathing easy,
and allowing myself
to just do whatever
without guilt.
I’m not restless and I don’t get bored.
I savor the quiet and stillness.
just as my cats,
great connoisseurs of relaxation and comfort
that they are.
I can appreciate today, the here & now.
Today is a snow day, so was yesterday. I can give thanks for my warm home, food in the cupboard, a good book (Lonesome Dove), the internet, my good health, the many blessings of the Divine instead of grumbling about being “stuck” inside again.
Thank you……🙏🏻✨❄️
I am in a training all day so I am going to appreciate the people in the training with me. Also, it is over Zoom so being thankful for technology and the ability to learn from all corners of the world together.
The cold. I keep mentally defending myself from it. Now I bless the cold, with its ice-crystal breath and sparkling snow. The cold freezes the trees so that they can sleep clean, it makes our heated spaces feel especially delicious, and it helps the earth renew for spring. Blanket of cold, thank you for providing dormancy and rest.
Today I appreciate my family support group for families dealing with addiction. The owner who lost her son to addiction (at age 24) still works tirelessly for the cause. This morning I read that her non-profit company was one of the first to be awarded $35,000 opioid settlement funds.
I am feeling pretty sad this morning. My husband continues to decline, and he is suffering. It is so hard to watch and not be able to do more to help. I would appreciate your prayers today.
Gracious God, Creator of these lives, hear the requests of your creations. Send right assistance to enfold them in this hour of their deepest needs. Bless them with comfort, peace, courage, physical, mental, spiritual, financial and emotional healing…. Hear the support of those who are requesting help on their behalf. May your blessings for them be the right one they need today. We thank you for all you have gifted them and we thank you for the blessings you have for them. We join hands with all beings requesting your help. Amen. Amen. Shalom. Shalom. Let it be. Let it be.
I will share John O’Donohue prayer below and also the title of two poems, you can look up.
A Blessing Prayer in Difficult Times
by John O’Donohue
May you know tender shelter and healing blessing
when you are called to stand in the place of pain.
May the places of darkness within you be surprised by light.
May you be granted the wisdom to avoid false resistance and
when suffering knocks on the door of your life, may you be able to glimpse its hidden gift.
May you be able to see the fruits of suffering.
May memory bless and shelter you with the hard-earned light of past turmoil,
to remind you that you have survived before,
And though the darkness is now deep,
You will soon see approaching light.
May this give you confidence and trust.
May a window of light always surprise you.
May the grace of transfiguration heal your wounds.
Two poems you can meditate on –
A Blessing for a Friend on the Arrival of Illness By John O’Donohu
Blessing For Courage By John O’Donohue
Praying for your heart and your love story, Linda. ♥️🙏🏼 it’s very painful to see your beloved suffer. We are in solidarity as witnesses on this journey.
The gift of a full and meaningful life and all of the things that I “get to” (instead of “have to”) do today. Also, the gift of all those little moments available when I can take a short pause, look out the window, take a mindful breath, say my mantram, smile, or in some other way take a break and bring myself into Presence.
I can appreciate Ngoc being able to go on our family walk this morning. She’s only able to go once per week, because she has a lot of homework for her courses from the social worker major.

Sounds delicious, Barb. What a nice present for him. I can imagine how much he appreciates it. Ngoc gave me a chocolate chip cookie a couple days ago.

It is a source of calm for me as well,
