Useful question because it got me into the question of what is living. I recently watched a zombie movie and they all tend to be a commentary on the dulled existence of modern humans. So what is life if we don’t truly have a sense we are living. The other animals on the planet get it. Today’s question is a good one to prompt me to wake up.
Fascinating question. I love all the answers but am not quite sure of my own! Is life as simple as being conscious? But plants live and are they conscious? All I know is that to me, life is a miracle, a gift, something that we shouldn’t take for granted. It can be delightful, it can be hard but it is endlessly fascinating and something I wouldn’t want to be without! It is a chance to love and be loved, to do good, and to share in a collective group of consciousness, everything and everyone interacting. I shall probably ponder this all night now!
It is a realization. The realization that there is no separate body and mind, self/not self, here and there. A realization that everything is alive and in their own unique ways, living. It is an awakening to what is.
My speculation is that life is a process of schooling in which we learn how to love God, neighbor, and self and learn how to forgive others, as well as ourselves. All of us are sent here with specific special missions that help us to learn these lessons and/or teach them to others.
Life is a wonderful yet fleeting moment filled with love, connection, compassion, joy, sorrow…a myriad of possibilities a blank canvas or page waiting to be filled…different for each and every one of us yet the same…a mystery that is being written every single moment…let’s turn the page slowly and savor the splendor shall we?
Life is a gift not to be taken for granted. Not something earned or manipulated by our own doing or interpreted by our own understanding. It is an awe inspired journey of everyday undertakings that show us a hint of the miraculous if we can be open enough to sense the presence of glory beyond words reflected in every waking moment.
Life is a little sparrow, always curious, flitting from one branch to another, trying to catch the early morning worm, trying to evade the scary hawk, fending to its fledgelings, dancing in the bird bath
Life is energy. It never really does end. It just transforms. It’s passed on. It’s our opportunity to love others and ourselves with all our hearts. It’s a journey where we grow, and share with others what we’ve learned along the way. It’s an evolution of the meaningful connections we made with other people. It’s our chance to fulfill on a calling we feel deep inside us. Life is beautiful. It’s all around us. It’s within us. It is us.
Life is breath and all that I experience as an embodied being…. but I’m pondering how my life, your lives and all of life is also carried somehow in the heart and eternal being of God. It’s beyond breath and the flesh of my body…
Life is a gift of the Almighty One. No matter the struggles, hardships, difficult days and weepy nights, life is a mystery, a small spark of knowing and being known.
Life is God breathed energy, taking root wherever it will and can, bringing joy and companionship to God. (Feel free to substitute “Universe” in there if your language is not “God”.
The only Life I know of is a Cosmic Dance, comprised of all beings in all forms, energies and microorganism here on planet Earth, better known as Turtle Island.
A finite collection of days and nights, each with their own physical and emotional weather, choices, challenges and opportunities to connect, love, learn and grow.
Living is an experience that we need to celebrate both the good and bad experiences. The bad experiences are lessons for us. Life is fleeting, short lived so we should try to make the best of it, embrace and experience as much of it as possible. I believe that once our life is completed, our body will no longer function but our inner essence will continue on in the cosmos ..
I experience it as an infused energy, moving through me, facilitated by this physical manifestation (my body). Kinda of like if life were radio waves. Moving constantly around, invisible, bouncing off of everything and everyone, and I am a radio receiver able to capture it, and turn it into perceptible audio (music or words)….the radio works or doesn’t. The radio waves are there anyways.
I was waiting at a traffic signal the other day, a HUGE intersection with six lanes each way crossing and multiple turn lanes, and I was stunned by a tuft of grass that was growing in a crack in the pavement in the middle of the lane next to me. Life is persistent. It never stops trying to grow in whatever way it can…it’s marvelous in that way. And in some respects I am relieved because despite all our stupidity and arrogance as a species. The damage we do will be overcome. Life will work it out.

Different things to different people.

Life is a journey, a teacher & the most precious of things. I often take life for granted knowing how foolish that is.
Beyond its basic biological reality life at its core is about being present to oneself, to others, in the world and some largeness of life.
