So many things… My daily practice fills my tank. Spending times with my husband, kids, and girlfriends. Being in nature touches my heart. Laying on the couch with my cat on my chest.

When I started thinking about things I label simple, I realized that for many people they are difficult things indeed. In Ukraine, heating water for that first cup of coffee in the morning may not be possible. Either the water, the coffee or a means to heat the liquid may not be available. I thought of war torn Syria. Refugees who have been living in tents in Turkey for years without necessities. I could go on and on but I’m struggling with the word “simple.” I take so many things for granted! Thanks for this question.

A chance encounter with someone, with an exchange of information. That feeling of being connected to others and the random alignment of circumstance.
And of course being in nature. Preferably on my bike, but any time I can work up a sweat out in the natural world.

I’m especially appreciative of this morning’s cup of coffee because our power went out during the night and wasn’t restored until around 8:15 AM. I had to wait for my rejuvenation later than I usually get it.

lamme, I hear you and agree that I, too, just don’t know. That said, the night sky might be the only thing left to inspire me. However, I’m quite sure that it would be my children that gave me the strength to carry on. They would need me so very much and I know I would need them!

You are so right, simple to us may not even be available to others around the globe. The one thing that always lifts me no matter what is bothering me is if I can look out into a blue sky or a starlit sky, but whether this would lift and sooth me if I were living in fear of hunger, war, violence, flood, famine etc is another matter; could I still find pleasure in looking up at the sky…? I just don’t know.

Thank you for this answer. Becoming aware of privilege unsimplifies so many things.

Yes, Christine I love this too. Lately on my daily walks I make it a point to walk in the leaves & stir them up! Reminds me of my happy childhood. ???
