A long deceased colleague who generously mentored me over a number of years to build my expertise.

Professionally, when I went from small town to corporate work, I had a boss who mentored me, she was so well mannered and gracious even under fire that I marveled at her ability. She shared not only her knowledge with me, she told me I could do anything and work anywhere. I have tried to pattern what I have learned from her to the younger people in my office. Forever grateful.

The humble mystics of old, who lived simply and who did not exploit their work for gain but worked among and for the sake of the poor and oppressed, inspire me in my work as an intern and soon-to-be minister.

The list is endless…I have been blessed with inspirational coworkers, Manager, friends, family, acquaintances and strangers… When I think about my “work” and what has inspired me…it isn’t just the “text book” inspirations that have been meaningful and shaped my development…it was also the time when someone was courageous enough to be vulnerable and share their challenges and learnings…it was the person who modeled the importance of looking after your physical body…it was the woman who was passionate about meditation and introduced it to a skeptical group of coworkers …it was the innocence of my young children and later, the development of their passionate advocacy voices….and on and on… so very grateful

Children always inspire me. They are so open, and so in the present. I love watching small children take delight in everything–all is new and fun!

I’m mostly self-motivated in the scientific work I do now in retirement. Publishing is always a struggle, with many rejections and objections that are sometimes even incorrect, as I discovered much later about one criticism/objection. Looking through a microscope with not a scientific thought in my head – that’s where the initial inspiration came from in 2007.

In the Years , I had been able to work in a Kindergarten, most time, the children inspired me. Their ability to be amazed of little things,to forget time and space, listen to an inner voice full of fantasy

So many people have inspired me in my work. I have had mentors, professional career coaches, co-workers, colleagues. The best inspiration is from those that are not intending to inspire but do so just by being who they are. I enjoy taking pieces of each of them and using it to become the best leader that I can be.

Shout out to Sdephen Trago of Down To Farm, (Strasburg, VA); ready and willing to experiment, to learn from mistakes, to take cues from the land, to work and maintain living soil for the joy in the moment regardless of future outcome, and for renewing my enthusiasm for green growing things by transferring his appreciation of plain ol’ dirt.

So many in fact. Often, the honesty of my fellow people and their deep wish to unfold in this world to their full beauty inspired to do my best to supporting them no matter the obstacles, related to for example to the guests in the pubs where I worked many years ago or people who ask for help nowadays. There were and are inspiring teachers also who I feel did and still do what they can to offer inspiration to the world through their gifts. Their love for what they deeply value shines through in all their gestures and this is just contagious then, inspiring me as well to pass on, whatever possible to me with a grateful heart.

Work is a blessing. Am I inspired by someone? It took me a few minutes to see I am inspired by everyone. When I work, I am most often alone. I am farming or I am creating. But it is the picture of the world and people, sometimes joyful and sometimes suffering, that inspires my actions to lean the balance towards a better place, where we have compassion for others, heal the planet, add a smile.

I have the name Carmen written on my vision board. It’s the name of my late grandmother and the name of my future daughter. The Universe will bless me with her before I know it.

At this age, I would say that my life is and has been my work. Those who have inspired me have been legion. In my final years of work-work, my wonderful spiritual directors – kindred spirits who walked the pathway before and with me. Now, my daughters, son-in-law, granddaughter and good friends who have been through a fair number of life challenges continue to inspire.

In each of my jobs I have had people inspire me in my work – both my supervisors at my forensic job [Maureen] and blood bank job [Phyllis] were incredible. Where I work now I have many wonderful mentors. I’m grateful to learn and share excitedness in a profession I love. There were teachers in college who had such enthusiasm with their topics its contagious:)

I’ve been fortunate to work with and around a wide variety of people, and I’ve received inspiration from the bulk of them. I find that I tend to end up working directly with someone who balances me out, and vice versa. Except for my most recent Team Leader, although I will say the inspiration I got from him was what NOT to do now that I am a TL. He was the hardest person I’ve worked with in years, and I’m so grateful that chapter finally came to a close!

The list is long of the people in my life who have inspired me in my life’s work. But if I had to whittle it down to one sub-group, it would be children. I have had the privilege of caring for, working with, and ministering to young people for nearly fifty years. Their courage, resiliency, honesty, tenderness, and hidden wells of joy have inspired me for decades.

The brave children and women who have fought to overcome incredible obstacles and made something of themselves.
The ones at end of life who find great grace, courage, and love to be able to transition well.
Those who have such vision for healing the world and really get to make impacts, often small things but powerful ones.
I am ever indebted to the life lessons shared by each one of these souls.
